Aggressive Male Cat? "Boar Spray" Might help!

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

In a perfect world, our furry friends would live harmoniously together day in and day out. However, many male cat owners experience problems with their pets displaying sexually aggressive behaviors towards female cats in the household. Needless to say, this can be a very stressful experience for all involved. If you’ve been having issues keeping your male cat’s behavior towards females in check - don’t lose hope! Before you consider drastic measures like rehoming one of the animals, you should know that there is a product on the market that has helped many cat owners to restore the peace. Believe it or not, the solution is a boar spray typically used in animal husbandry - also known as “boar mate”. When this product is applied to a female cat, it can reduce or eliminate undesirable male attention.

This substance is synthetically produced and designed to encourage the mating of livestock boar - but it has a surprising secondary usage! Using boar mate for cats often stops the unwanted male aggression immediately. Additionally, it only needs to be applied every few days. Using boar mate for cats works by masking the natural scent of a female cat that could provoke unwanted behavior in males. Essentially, the spray formula covers the female cat's odor and replaces it with male pheromones.

Making use of boar mate spray in the home can go a long way to help eliminate mate cat sexual aggression that sometimes persists even after neutering. This confuses the attacking male cat and causes him to back off and leave the female alone. This can relieve tension between cats and gives owners an alternative that doesn’t involve separating the cats. Boar mate is usually applied to the female’s rump area with a cotton ball. When the male attempts to attack the female, he will find the odor unappealing and back off from the female. Neutering has been found to eliminate typical sexual aggressiveness around 90% of the time. However, it’s the 10% that aren’t affected by neutering that could benefit from the use of boar mate for cats. It makes for a much happier home when all cats can coexist in peace - so it’s worth keeping an open mind and giving this somewhat peculiar remedy a try!
